Flora Farms'
The American Paint Horse
|
The American Paint
Horse was introduced to this country by the Spanish conquistadors.
The spotted horses quickly became a part of the free-ranging
herds that roamed the West, and because of their working ability
and heart, the cowboys cherished the Paint for use in working
cattle. Native |
Americans
revered the Paint, which they believed to possess magical
powers. The
Comache Indians, considered by many to be the finest horsemen
on the Plains, favored the loud-colored horses as evidenced by
drawings of spotted horses found on buffalo robes that served
as Comanche records.
Over the years the conformation and athletic ability of these
rugged mounts of the Old West have been improved by breeders,
however, the unusual coat patterns and coloring remain the same.
The stock-type conformation, intelligence and willing attitude
make the American Paint Horse an excellent horse for pleasure
riding, ranch work, rodeo, trail riding, showing, or simply as
a friendly mount for the kids. |
